Dealing with Data Sampling in Looker Studio

Sampling means Looker Studio analyses only a subset of your data and extrapolates. This can produce inaccurate metrics.

Detecting Sampling

Look for the shield icon with percentage. Below 80% is unreliable for decisions.

Why It Happens

GA4 samples when event volume exceeds thresholds. More dimensions, segments and longer ranges increase likelihood.

Reducing Sampling

Shorten date range. Reduce dimensions. Use GA4 BigQuery export — our guide shows how. BigQuery = 100% data, no sampling.

Alternatives

Pre-aggregate in Sheets. Use Extract Data source. For critical dashboards, BigQuery is always recommended. Talk to our team.
