Fixing Calculated Field Errors in Looker Studio

Calculated fields are unforgiving — small errors produce red indicators across charts.

Syntax Errors

Missing parentheses, wrong function names (REGEXP_MATCH not REGEX_MATCH), CASE must end with END, missing commas.

Type Mismatches

Math on text fields errors. Use CAST(Field AS NUMBER) or CAST(Field AS TEXT).

Division by Zero

Wrap: CASE WHEN Sessions > 0 THEN Conversions / Sessions ELSE 0 END.

Nulls

NULL propagates through calculations. Use IFNULL(field, 0). Critical in blended data. Contact us — we write these daily.
